Step one toward health for a Ashburn and Herndon smoker suffering with back pain may necessitate a chiropractic treatment plan that includes a plan to quit smoking.

WHO SMOKES?

Researchers are curious about factors related to smoking. In a review of 7547 patients who underwent back surgery, they found that 18% were smokers. The researchers observed that compared to the non-smokers, the smokers were younger, male, nondiabetic, and nonobese. Patients in this group who suffer with coronary artery disease were more liable to be smokers. Smokers who underwent lumbar spine back surgery presented initially more with leg pain than back pain and disability. Their employment, insurance/uninsured, and education status were also linked to smoking status. Fascinatingly though, smoking status did not affect the disability status at a year after back surgery. (1) Altering such risk factors work just as well for smokers and nonsmokers luckily. Poulin Chiropractic of Herndon and Ashburn would help a Ashburn and Herndon smoker who has Ashburn and Herndon back pain establish a plan to stop smoking.

SMOKING’S EFFECTS ON THE BODY

The body gets what is good for it…and what is not. Smoking is not. Studying 2307 smokers and non-smokers, researchers discovered that smoking is most strongly associated with spine pain. Headache, trunk pain and limb pain followed. Active smoking is linked to pain in every part of the body. The spine and head withstand the brunt of the painful influence though. If a smoker doesn’t like pain, you’ll want to consider stop smoking! (2) Poulin Chiropractic of Herndon and Ashburn is with you to support your effort to quit smoking when you’re ready.
