Synovial Cysts Cause Back and Leg Pain, Poulin Chiropractic of Herndon and Ashburn Offers Relief

August 14, 2018

A cyst. What does that make you think of? For some Ashburn and Herndon back pain sufferers, it would be a hint to the basis of their pain. But the diagnosis of a synovial cyst as the culprit causing pain is an intriguing one. Back pain and leg pain may develop from a synovial cyst which is where Ashburn and Herndon chiropractic care at Poulin Chiropractic of Herndon and Ashburn comes in to help. Ashburn and Herndon chiropractic care with the Cox® Technic is shown to help decrease back pain and related leg pain due to a synovial cyst without Ashburn and Herndon back surgery.

SYNOVIAL CYST FACTS

First, let us discuss what synovial cysts are. Synovial cysts are uncommon lesions associated with facet degeneration and usually found in the lumbar spine at L4-S1. (1) 33% to 40% of synovial cysts are linked with degenerative spondylolisthesis and instability of the affected joint. (2,3) Synovial cysts may trigger sciatica/leg pain. (4) Synovial cysts appear in females mostly in their sixth decade of life, giving rise to radicular pain and neurological deficits. These cysts are frequently seen at L4-5 which is also the site of maximum mobility in the lumbar spine. MRI is the diagnostic instrument of choice as it displays the texture of the cyst (more or less fluid). (5) When synovial cysts seem lighter on MRI T2 images, they are probably more fluid filled and less likely gelatinous or calcified, making them potentially easier to ease. (6) Synovial cysts have been reported to disappear particularly if the cyst wall is not calcified. (7) Poulin Chiropractic of Herndon and Ashburn works to help Ashburn and Herndon back pain sufferers dealing with synovial cyst get rid of them, too.

SYNOVIAL CYST CAUSES

Wilby et al describe a channel that connects the facet joint capsule with the ligamentum flavum, the area where the synovial cysts ermerge. At surgery for these cysts, they found that fragments of articular cartilage and bone were in the walls of the channels in 89% of the cysts. This debris jams and prevents the channel from draining and triggers granulation tissue and scar formation probably starting synovial cyst formation. (8) Poulin Chiropractic of Herndon and Ashburn works on scar tissue to enhance the spine’s fluidity.

SYNOVIAL CYST TREATMENT

Conservative treatment of lumbar spine synovial cysts is suggested as some are included to vanish without surgery. (9) Conservative treatment is reasonable. If the cyst does not respond, then surgery is an option. (5) Cox® Technic has a reputation of conservative care relief for synovial cysts. (10) As used at Poulin Chiropractic of Herndon and Ashburn, Cox® Technic succeeded in relief when an epidural steroid injection didn’t. (11) In another case, a 75 year old man with back and leg pain and a synovial cyst treated for 3 months/16 visits experienced 80% relief. (12) Cox® Technic at Poulin Chiropractic of Herndon and Ashburn is relieving for numerous Ashburn and Herndon back pain sufferers with synovial cysts.
